And ya just don't get many like these- willing to risk the prestigious job, rep and ALL the perks, just for
the possibility of... saving lives!

Getting Schooled

Pompous 'Conservative Intellectual' (talk about an oxymoron) gets utterly schooled by a master. Ol' Bill thought he could raise his eyebrows and flutter his eyelids (not to mention threaten outright violence) as usual in order to further impress and intimidate, or in this case disguise, how he is thoroughly outclassed, outmaneuvered and just plain owned! Small wonder Noam was... never invited back.

The King

I love films that center on the issue of... trust. Who-do-you-trust? That's about as central an issue in life as one can possibly get. It's also why I loved Training Day so much- I remember saying that if there was any justice in the world, Denzel would get the Academy Award for his performance in that (he did).

Anyway, The King centers on that very theme, and does so exceedingly well: trust, love, friendship, betrayal. I was in turn anxious to discover how much of the film's depiction was true to history- and it was a mixed bag as to be expected. Although trusting anyone in those days was a truly mixed bag- as it remains today...

Stopping Fascism

Something to ponder in the interim... He starts 5:00 into the video, and when he does- Chris Hedges leaves-no-stone-unturned!

And speaking of vets, patriotism and heroes for that matter- I'll ask, yet again... When is the great Hollywood bio-epic (or even a freakin' statue for Chrissakes!) gonna be made for this Great American Hero, or... this guy? These were real leaders- heroes who lived and experienced war, unlike our current 5X deferment who liked playing soldier in school, or the one who bravely defended Texan  airspace.
